New York City changes dramatically from one neighborhood to the next. Restaurants evolve, parks change, architecture differs and the general vibe varies drastically at times.

I’m a Real Estate Agent with SERHANT and have lived in New York City for over 20 years. During that time I’ve been able to experience and live in most of its neighborhoods and I love each of them for their own characteristics and charm. What makes New York City an exciting place to live is that you can visit a new neighborhood anytime to experience its own unique vibe.

New York’s New York is my view of New York… hopefully helping to guide you to the right restaurants or neighborhoods and ultimately showing you why I love NYC so much.

New York City or Nowhere.

Why NYC? It’s the center of Earth. Its Arts, Culture and Food make it an exciting and at times a very magical place. New York’s New York is me guiding you through my favorite ‘NYC’ things . Buckle up.

The Arts.

Visual.

First and foremost… I have a fine arts background so New York City’s art scene was a huge draw to me moving here 20 years ago. I’m now a member of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and often spend a few hours a month wandering around aimlessly absorbing the priceless works from across the globe. So easy right? I’m also a huge fan of Chelsea’s ‘Gallery Night’ every Thursday. From 6pm-8pm galleries hosting an opening are open to the public, have free booze and sometimes food. For 2 hours you get to hop around and check out some of the art worlds up and coming cutting edge works.

Musical.

I suppose we should talk about music as well! Aside from large well known bands playing venues like MSG or Barclays Arena, there are hundreds of smaller venues putting on local acts that are equally amazing! You could easily go out to see a live band every night of the week. If rock isn’t your thing The Met or Carnegie Hall always have Opera and Classical perfronces nightly.

Performing.

And finally, what is New York City without Broadway?! There are a ton of ways to score discounted tickets, you just need to be ready to go to the show last minute. Or, if you really want to see something more intimate and maybe a little edgy take it ‘Off Broadway.’ These shows are also a lot easier to score tickets to. Don’t forget NYC’s dance scene either. Check out the NYC Ballet’s website for a list of daily performances.

but it’s a start."

Food & Drink.

Best of the Best.

I love to eat. I love to cook. Let’s face it, I love to eat.

Did I move to NYC for my career and for the arts? Yes. Did I also move here because I wanted to experience the best food from around the world? Certainly! People from all around the world come here to introduce other people to their food and culture.

I have a fond memory of eating sushi at a place called ‘Sushi Yasuda’ when I was 22 years old. The owner of the design firm I was working at took me there as a treat and prior to that I thought I had known what sushi really was. Not even close. He knew the owner and after introducing me, the owner set upon us a chef’s menu of sushi I have never forgotten. It remains to this day one of my favorite sushi restaurants.

Anyplace… Anytime.

It’s 10pm and you’re sitting in your apartment. The phone rings. A friend invites you to grab Indian Food in Curry Hill at 10:30pm. It’s New York, no problem.

Not only will the restaurant be open, but the food will be amazing, some of the best Indian food in the city or the country for that matter. NYC truly is the ‘City that Never Sleeps’ and its hospitality industry is a beacon in the darkness of night.

Maybe it’s midnight and you want falafel at your local spot? No problem.

Fraunces Tavern [Financial District]

Pub = Public House.

Aside from great food, NYC has some of the best bars in the World. Historically, we humans have been gathering in ‘public houses’ forever! Case in point the above public house, Fraunces Tavern, is where George Washington used to hang out and you know, talk about ideas like ‘Revolution’ and ‘America.’ It’s also the oldest bar in NYC… not McSorley’s Olde Ale House.

What are you looking for? Irish pubs, dance clubs, underground sake bars like Decibel, dark and sexy wine bars or simply a neighborhood hang out to watch TV or read… NYC will deliver.

A Place for Everyone

Culture.

“Where ya from?”

Just like any city, meeting new people and finding out where they’re from is very exciting. In New York City you might get “Los Angeles” or you unexpectedly could get a response like “Madagascar.” Trust me, it’s happened.

Finding out where people are from is such an easy way to form new connections and get a conversation going that it’s probably the first thing someone might ask you. (aside from my least favorite question which is “What do you do?”).

Unlimited Accents.

I’ve lived here for twenty years and I still get excited when walking down the street and someone is talking in an accent I can’t quite decipher!

Aside from food, you can experience a vast multitude of cultures here in NYC. The further out into Queens or Brooklyn you venture the more exotic the experience!

People from other countries have been moving here for centuries to start a better life and form communities like the ones they left. As a New Yorker it’s a gift to be able to almost ‘Travel the World’ and see these cultures in action, but in our mighty metropolis. Have I intrigued you? Go explore!
