Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village will always have a fun vibe. It’s NYU’s home as well as many many long term residents of New York making for a great melting pot of young and old. There is an amazing music scene from jazz, folk, hip hop and wild underground dance parties. I also go there for the food scene because anything you can think of to eat you can find in Greenwich Village.
Where.
Greenwich Village has some of the easiest boundary coordinates of any NYC hood. 14th Street to the north and Houston in the south then from Broadway, west to the River. The official neighborhood of Greenwich Village also encompasses the West Village, which I will discuss elsewhere. There is even a Path Train stop so Jersey folks can easily come visit.
Attractions.
Above all, Greenwich village had, has and always will (in my opinion) have NYC’s longest running music scene. From jazz to folk, hip hop to underground dance parties, it has something for everyone.
Speaking of music, it also has a few of the last remaining vinyl/music shops in the city where you can physically buy tunes.
And of course, the food. You can find just about anything to eat down here and for any price point. Go to Alta and have an upscale tapas meal at a sexy wine bar or head to Mamoun’s for some amazing falafel after seeing a live show at The Bitter End… it’s a win win.
Transit.
As far as getting somewhere in Manhattan, Greenwich Village is probably the easiest as basically every single train line passes through it one way or another. It’s location in the middle of the island dictates easy access.
